LifeKraze is an exciting new social networking platform that combines the real world and the world offline. “Make real connections, generate real competition, create real challenges, and earn real rewards.”

The idea behind LifeKraze was born from Ben Wagner and David Nielson’s days in college. After graduation, they have built a strong team by adding Michael Brooks and a solid, experienced board to assist them in making this venture highly successful.

LifeKraze partnered with 2 companies to be a part of their team: Blacksnow Media and Tubatomic. Tubatomic designed and built the company’s corporate site and did the designs for the primary LifeKraze system. Blacksnow Media’s responsibility has been to construct the full and mobile site along with assisting in some of the design. Being a part of a winning combination of partners along with an all Chattanooga team has been very rewarding.

We are completing the final phases of development with our eyes on a successful launch in January. Alpha testing continues to give excellent feedback and is generating a lot of excitement among the user community. Stay tuned to LifeKraze’s official Beta launch in January so that you can participate in this new social networking community.

Social networking is all the rage these days. One of our clients Knetwit is a social networking site around school notes. They are now integrated with Facebook using Facebook Connect. Facebook Connect allows users to connect their Facebook account with any partner website. Since being announced in May 2008 Facebook Connect has already been adopted by CNET, CNN, Red Bull and Tech Crunch to augment the social networking integration of their sites.

Facebook Connect opened the door for us to bring Knetwit to the Facebook community. With FB Connect we’ve streamlined sign-ups, invitations and content promotion for Facebook users. FB Connect gave Knetwit users more power to interact with their existing users and friends.

Our projects require a lot of database interaction as any intermediate to large web site requires. A common problem with databases are the DateTime datatypes.

DateTime datatypes within WHERE clauses frequently give people the wrong results. I see this often. I am having to fix a lot of reports now to correct this issue. Here is the offending statement:

WHERE CreatedDate between @BeginDate and @EndDate

By default, a datetime value will give the time portion of “00:00:00″; the full value looks like this – “1/30/2009 00:00:00″.

See the problem with this WHERE statement – “WHERE CreatedDate BETWEEN ‘1/1/2009 00:00:00′ AND ‘1/30/2009 00:00:00′”? The problem is that you will not get data for the date of January 30th since that value is only up to midnight on the 30th.

Here are two ways of fixing it. Both of these methods depend on the programmer modifying the @EndDate parameter.

WHERE CreatedDate BETWEEN ‘1/1/2009 00:00:00′ AND ‘1/30/2009 23:59:59′. --This takes you to the end of the day on the 30th.

WHERE CreatedDate BETWEEN ‘1/1/2009 00:00:00′ AND ‘1/31/2009 00:00:00′ --This takes you to the start of the next day.

An easy fix for this (examples are using Transact SQL) is the following:

WHERE CreatedDate BETWEEN @BeginDate and ADDDATE(day,1,@EndDate)

We are transitioning from Mongrels & Apache to JRuby & Glassfish v3. We use Cookie Session Stores in one of our Ruby on Rails (RoR) projects. They are the default session store and work well for our load-balancing requirements. When we switched to JRuby/Glassfish, our RoR cookie clients were receiving JSESSIONID cookies. Since the RoR session cookies actually store the session data and JSESSIONIDs do not our session load-balancing failed.

There are numerous solutions to load-balancing with Glassfish clusters and special ‘Sticky Glassfish Clusters’. Upon research this seemed to be the most common answer to our trouble, but it introduced more variables into the transition that we did not want to deal with. In the end we set our

We picked up the project and have done the website’s coding, iPhone app development, website design, and the photography used in the designs. Swingpal will allow golfers and instructors to connect with each other online, and improve the golfer’s game. The site will allow video uploads (as well as upload videos from mobile devices), video compare side by side with another swing, collaboration with your instructor, as well as swing tips and pro swings offered by the instructor and Swingpal’s database of videos. Swingpal is like having your golf instructor in the palm of your hand!
