At a Loss

Sometimes, being a parent is difficult. There are many things I don't understand, but many more that remind me of God's grace.

I don't understand why my dear friends lost their son two years ago. But I am amazed at how God has blessed their way of honoring their son's life.

I don't understand why two student's  at my children's school lost their lives this week. And I don't know what to do to comfort them other than to let them know I love them; and I understand how they feel.

We have lost many friends/loved ones in the past two years. I've been to more funerals during this time than in my entire life.

My heart breaks for loss after loss after loss.

And honestly, there just isn't anything that one can really say to those who have lost their loved ones that will take away their pain.

But we can be there for them. Share our memories with them. Encourage them; show love and kindness.

And be there for them.

I had the honor of listening to my friend last week as he spoke to a group of high schoolers about his son; and his family's loss. I sat there, facing the audience, as he spoke to the room. You could have heard a pin drop in the silence as they listened, tears streaming down many of their faces.

What touched my heart, was his willingness to share with these teenagers how much they are loved! He wanted more than anything, for them to go away knowing that they are loved.

Tonight, my daughter had to dance during half-time at the football game. I know this was hard for them, because they had lost a friend/sister today. They chose to dance to support their friend. After, there was a time of silence. And I prayed. I prayed for the sister who remains and for the family as they struggle to find some type of….something…that will help them through this.

Tonight, I will tell my children they are loved. I'd encourage any parent out there; don't be at a loss for words when it comes to telling your children you love them.

Tell them.

Tell them they are loved. Make sure they know!

Looking, when we don’t have to!

It's Just for the Joy of It over at Good, True and Beautiful. Love it!

Except, I'm a working mom now and don't get a lot of pictures and don't have enough time with my family. And that's ok.

But it's forced me to look for joy in new ways.

In the little precious moments like: singing with the Drama Queen on the way to work! We have a few moments of let's talk….while she anxiously waits to turn up the radio and see what fabulous song we'll sing together!

I look foward to the texts from my high schoolers that I know I'll get as soon as they are out of school.

And those moments when I get home from work and seek out the Smart One to find out how his day went.

Then there's the joy in hubby calling to check in with me at work and make sure I'm ok.

And there's always joy in Wednesday and Sunday, when we have our regularly scheduled guests who join us for lunch or dinner.

And of course, my oldest son always makes me smile when he shows up.

I have a the best family and friends.

and that's what brings me joy this week!

Scary Girl!

Bboo put copy

Or should I say, "Scared Girl?"

She hit the golf ball in the right pocket so the casket opened. We wanted a picture, so asked her to stand next to it. And then it started to close! Scared her silly and we got this picture to prove it!

Teenagers!

More than a few times this month, I’ve had others tell me how they just don’t understand teenagers; aren’t comfortable around them; don’t know what to say to them; and how they just can’t relate to them.

I think they’re great! I had a chance to get to know more of them this week at my work; Loved it!

This weekend we had some fun teen time! Friday night was spent at the homecoming game watching B-boo perform at half-time. Then it was food. I’m sure I got several looks as I walked in with a group of them. And then we had fun playing hearts until I just couldn’t stay awake another minute!

But, what people may not know about *my* group of teens is how awesome they really are! You see, their purpose for spending the weekend at my house? It was to give up their Saturday so they could come help clean up my back yard. And it’s a HUGE back yard.

We had fun raking leaves, trimming rose bushes, digging up stray palms and using a chain saw! Oh..and breaking the chain saw. Which led to the following video!

They were trying to break off the dead branch without a chain saw! Hubby did get it going again, but not before the above incident! LOL

After several hours of work, I finally asked them to pose for a group picture. And I got this:

The first was too dark, because they were in the shade.

Img_4759 So I asked them to pose in the light. Notice the three on the right doing what I asked; but the other three..not so much.
Img_4759 So I ask them again, to pose. The three on the right….still posing.

B-Boo & Twin are goofing off & causing problems.

Notice the girl on the left…she’s getting irritated!
Img_4759 And the next thing you know….

WHACK!Img_4759 This was the best picture I could get.

Teen on left looks triumphant…three on the right are still posing…

And I gave up on B-boo and the Twin!Img_4759
BTW-My back yard looks beautiful! Thank you!
